1960 Figures GI Joe Action
GI Joe: man struggling U.S. mobile (1964-69)
Hassenfeld Brothers (Hasbro) in Pawtucket, Rhode Island, began to sell the first "action figure" to children especially in the 1960s. The conventional wisdom of marketing for the 1960s was that children do not play with dolls, so the word "doll" was never used by Hasbro or any person involved in the development or marketing GI Joe. "Action Figure" was the term is only acceptable and has become the generic description for any disposable wrist children. "U.S. mobile warrior" is a registered trademark of Hasbro, and was featured in cash contained in each package.
The driving force behind the concept was Don Levine, who in 1963 was creative director of Hasbro toys. Stan Weston of Weston Merchandising Corp., a product development company, approached him with the idea of a military base line includes toy figures and many accessories. Stan Weston credits Larry Reiner, then chief of the division of Ideal Toys games, with the idea of an articulated figure, based on conversations he had with Mr. Reiner in connection with the concept. Sam Speer, then the product development team of Hasbro is especially the specific merit of nearly 12 "tall articulated figure design as produced by Hasbro, its name appears on the patent # 3277602" figure with movable toy ", assigned on 11 October 1966. The charts of all major packages were outsourced to Thresher and Petrucci Art Studio, a company based in the vicinity who had conducted an independent work for Hasbro.
Hasbro prototypes were originally named "Rocky" (marine / Soldier) "Skip" (sailor) and "Ace" (pilot), before the adoption of the more universal name GI Joe. The initial offer outstanding products members of the four branches of the armed forces as follows, Action Soldier, Sailor, Action Pilot and Action Marine, a set of accessories immediately available for each branch. He correctly assumed that competitors try to emulate or copy completely the concept, so the idea was to offer a wide range of items accessories from the beginning.
The current situation in Vietnam and the growing anti-war in the late sixties marked the end of the first years of GI Joe, in 1969, he was no longer a soldier / sailor / pilot / sailor, but an adventurer, was marketed under the "Adventures of GI Joe, and the line was at Adventurer, black adventurer, Aquanaut, and astronaut Talking. Instead of joint military, most of the recycled materials from previous years were given names like "Fight for Survival", "Perils of the deep". "Mysterious Explosion", "Secret Mission to Spy Island" and " Mouth of Doom ". All that would change the following year, as GI Joe was the natural hair and beards, courtesy of the license from Hasbro UK, Palitoy. Head variations
Four hair colors were offered in 1964, Blonde, Auburn (Red), Brown and Black. Colors the eyes were specifically adapted to the colors of hair, his brown hair blond and it came with brown eyes, Black hair and Brown arrived with blue eyes. In 1965 an American ethnic version of the military base was offered, but was merely a characteristic figure Caucasus integral molded in vinyl instead of using the color pink otherwise. Some figures seem to matter very early eyeliner, and these leaders seem more prone to contraction of the later variants. In 1966, European version of the head of a "foreign" and Japan was released, with the arrival of the 6 "Soldiers of Action in global emissions. In 1967, speaking variants were also released. Late Black, Red, Blonde and heads talkative soft vinyl Brown were essentially the same as that used for come in the Adventurer series introduced in 1970.
Basic Figure
The figure was loosely based on the artist's mannequins still available today, the basis figure had multiple points of articulation, previously not found in any children's toy. The advertising claimed "21 points of articulation", however, if one counts each individual pivot point of contact, there are 19, the head to the neck, torso, neck, shoulder, torso (2), shoulder biceps (2), elbow ...
